Getting to Ærø is easy.
The ferries sail from Fynshav (Als) in the most southern part of Denmark, and from both Faaborg and Svendborg on Funen, Denmark.
From Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Copenhagen:
We'll go by car (duration app. 3,5 hours to ferry): Close to the airport is motorway E20. Follow that to Odense, Funen where you take exit no 9 to Svendborg. When you reach Svendborg just follow the signs to the ferry.
We'll go by train (duration 4,5 hours): Take the train from the airport via Copenhagen Central Station to Odense. Change trains and continue to Svendborg. From Svendborg station it's a 5 munite walk to the ferry.
We'll go by bus (travel time about 4.5 hours) Take the Flixbus from Kastrup to the bus stop Sundbrovej v. Johannes Jørgensens Vej in Svendborg, where you change to bus 241 towards Grasten or 931 towards Nyborg. You get off at the train station / bus station and from the train station in Svendborg it takes 5-10 minutes to go to the ferry.
From Billund Airport (BLL), Billund:
We'll go by car (duration app. 3 hours) App. 30 km from the airport is the motorway. Go in direction 'Odense'. Take exit no 9 to Svendborg.. When you reach Svendborg just follow the signs to the ferry.
We'll go by train (duration app. 4 hours): Take the train from Billund Airport to Odense, Change trains and continue to Svendborg. From Svendborg station it's a 5 munite walk to the ferry.
From Sønderborg (and Germany):
We'll go by car (duration app. 30 min to ferry): Take highway 8 towards Fynshav. The road ends at the harbour and the ferry to Ærø.
We'll go by bus (duration app. 1,5 hours): Take the bus from Sønderborg Station to Fynshav. The bus will stop close to the ferry.
Our local airline Starling Air has scheduled flights between Ærø and Svendborg, Ringsted and Copenhagen West for a part of the year. And you can book the for a private flight if the schedule doesn't quite match yours.
