Kjøbinghus from 1645

Stay and experience Ærøskøbing’s oldest house and feel the presence of history – right in the town’s charming streets and close to both the beach and local attractions.

Stay and sleep in the heart of Ærøskøbing’s history
If you’d like to stay in truly historic surroundings, the listed building Kjøbinghus is something quite special. Built in 1645, it is Ærøskøbing’s oldest house and offers plenty of original details. Here you can spend the night in Denmark’s oldest town house, complete with an iron-bound plank door, and feel the spirit of the past – while still enjoying all modern comforts within reach.

Inside, you’ll find low ceilings, elegant wood panelling and an open fireplace that together create a cosy, intimate atmosphere. Every room in the house tells its own story – from the blue trading room, now converted into a bedroom, to the sitting room with a wood-burning stove from 1831, and the bright summer room where sunlight filters beautifully through the small-paned windows.

Historic garden and Ærø within walking distance
The courtyard garden is an experience in itself. The uneven cobblestones, old fruit trees and lilac bushes invite you to relax in peaceful surroundings. The pear tree in the garden even has its own little role in the house’s long history.

From the front door, you’re just steps away from Ærøskøbing’s charming square, the local whisky distillery and Denmark’s smallest cinema. Explore the cobbled streets, or follow the Øhav Trail just 200 metres from the back garden. Vester Strand, with its colourful beach huts, is also nearby – perfect for a swim or a quiet moment in the sun.

P.S.
When you rent Kjøbinghus, you rent the entire historic property – including your own peaceful garden ;-)
